Electrofusion Fitting Inspection Process: A Key Step in Ensuring Pipeline Connection Quality

As a core connecting component of plastic piping systems, the quality of electrofusion fittings directly affects the sealing, strength, and long-term stability of the pipeline network. A rigorous and scientific inspection process not only eliminates defective products during production and application but also provides a reliable basis for the safe operation of the project.
Inspection typically begins with visual inspection. Professionals visually inspect the surface of the fittings using magnifying equipment to confirm the absence of cracks, bubbles, obvious scratches, or uneven melting marks, and to check that the markings are clear and complete. This step quickly eliminates poorly molded or transport-damaged parts, laying the foundation for subsequent inspections.
Then, dimensional and geometric accuracy verification is performed. Using calipers, projectors, or coordinate measuring machines, key parameters such as socket diameter, weld zone length, and coaxiality are checked against the design drawings to ensure good matching with the pipe material and avoid welding defects or stress concentrations caused by dimensional deviations.
Functional performance testing encompasses multiple tests. Common methods include hydrostatic strength testing, which involves holding the weld under specified temperature and pressure conditions for a certain period to observe for leaks or ruptures; and peel testing, which verifies the bonding strength of the weld interface to ensure it can withstand pull-out and impact loads during operation. For special-purpose fittings, chemical corrosion resistance, high-temperature resistance, and UV aging resistance tests are also required to assess their serviceability in different environments.
Non-destructive testing also plays a crucial role in precision evaluation. Ultrasonic or thermal imaging technologies can detect internal porosity, unfused areas, and microcracks, compensating for hidden defects that are difficult to detect with the naked eye and conventional tests. After all items are completed, the test data must be compiled into a report, recording the judgment criteria and conclusions; non-conforming products must not be used.
Standardized testing procedures, implemented throughout production, warehousing, and pre-installation stages, effectively improve the consistency and reliability of electrofusion fittings, building a solid barrier for quality control in pipeline engineering.
