An electrofusion elbow changes the direction of an HDPE pipeline, normally by 90 or 45 degrees, and is joined to the pipe by an electric current passing through coils built into the fitting. The coils melt the fitting and the pipe surface together to form a strong, leak-proof connection, without the access space that a hot plate requires. Because the welding cycle is machine-controlled, electrofusion elbows are the practical choice in trenches, pits and other confined locations where a butt fusion rig will not fit. Q: How do I make sure the elbow is aligned before welding?
A: Hold the fitting firmly with clamps or an appropriate alignment device for the whole cycle. Preventing movement or misalignment is what keeps the joint quality consistent.

Q: What are the key installation steps?
A: Cut the pipe squarely, scrape off the oxide layer, and clean both the pipe end and the inside of the fitting. Insert the pipe to the hard stop, align and clamp, then connect the welding machine and start the cycle using the barcode or the entered parameters. Leave the assembly undisturbed to cool for the specified time before removing the clamps.

Q: Is there a minimum clearance around the joint?
A: Yes. Electrofusion works in tight spaces, but there must be enough room for pipe preparation and to keep the operator clear of the fusion area during the cycle, so a working clearance of roughly one metre around the joint is recommended.
