Production Logic of the Two Processes

Pre-wound wiring, also known as internal embedded wiring, is a well-established traditional technology.
During production, resistance wires are precisely arranged and fixed onto the mould mandrel first. After positioning, HDPE material is injected to form the fitting in one piece. Fully enclosed within the polyethylene layer, the resistance wires are hidden beneath the fitting's inner wall.
Visually, the inner surface remains perfectly smooth with no visible wire tracks.

Post-wound wiring adopts modern digitally controlled precision manufacturing.
The process starts with injection moulding of a complete fitting blank. After full cooling and shrinkage stabilization, CNC equipment cuts grooves on the inner wall, embeds resistance wires and seals the grooves in the final stage.
Since wiring takes place after moulding, uniform spiral wire tracks can be clearly seen on the inner surface of finished products. The depth and spacing of wiring are accurately controlled by machinery to achieve excellent dimensional precision.

Structural Stability, Moisture and Oxidation Resistance

The biggest advantage of pre-wound fittings lies in outstanding tightness and long-term stability.
Fully encapsulated by polyethylene, resistance wires are isolated from air and moisture to avoid oxidation and dampness.

For post-wound fittings, resistance wires are embedded close to the inner surface without full plastic encapsulation.
If sealing workmanship is substandard, wires may absorb moisture when exposed to humid environments over time. Premium products from qualified manufacturers adopt proper sealing treatment and work reliably.

Dimensional Accuracy & On-site Construction

Post-wound technology delivers superior dimensional accuracy.
Wiring is carried out after the fitting blank completes shrinkage and shaping. Therefore, inner diameter roundness and tolerance consistency are well guaranteed. Pipes can be inserted smoothly with uniform clearance. Post-wound products are preferred for large-scale engineering projects and export orders with strict dimensional requirements.

For pre-wound fittings, plastic shrinkage during cooling may slightly shift embedded wires after injection. Inner diameter tolerance fluctuates more easily. This technology demands high-precision moulds and sophisticated injection control from manufacturers.

 

Differences also exist during field installation:
Resistance wires are buried deeper in pre-wound fittings. Heat needs to penetrate the PE layer to fuse pipes thoroughly. For large-diameter construction, thorough removal of the oxidation layer on the pipe surface is mandatory, otherwise insufficient fusion and cold joints may occur.

Resistance wires of post-wound fittings sit near the inner wall, shortening heat transfer distance. Heat concentrates evenly during welding with higher operational tolerance, bringing greater convenience to field workers.

Advantages & Disadvantages Overview

Pre-wound Fittings

Pros: Fully sealed structure; resistance wires resist dampness and oxidation; anti-scuff performance for long-term storage; exceptional long-term stability for pipeline operation. Top choice for gas pipeline systems.
Cons: High requirements for production equipment and moulds; dimensional precision is slightly lower than post-wound products; strict standards for pipe surface grinding during construction.

Post-wound Fittings

Pros: Precise dimensions, good roundness, smooth pipe insertion; uniform heat distribution during welding; higher construction tolerance. Suitable for municipal water supply projects and standardized bulk orders.
Cons: Wires are embedded near the surface. Poor workmanship will lead to defects in wire channels. Strict sealing control is required during manufacturing.

Application Selection Guidance

- Gas pipelines, long-term outdoor storage, sea freight export and high-standard anti-ageing projects → Pre-wound fittings are recommended for maximum safety and stable performance.
- Municipal water supply, mass standardized projects and orders requiring tight dimensional tolerance, prioritizing convenient construction → Choose qualified post-wound fittings.
